Dress Code
City House
The following guidelines cannot capture every element of the NYAC Dress Code. Members and guests are expected to dress in a manner that is professional and consistent with the decorum of the Club. To this end, the Club reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to determine what is acceptable dress.
Those entering and exiting the building in casual or athletic attire of any kind must use the 58th Street entrance, the athletic staircase, and the athletic elevator.
Members and guests are responsible for ensuring that their children, aged eight and older, comply with the Club's Dress Code.
Social Floors (Lobby, 2, 9 to 12, and 24)
- Business casual dress is required on all of the Club’s social floors.
- Business casual dress includes: tailored pants, dresses, skirt ensembles, collared shirts, blouses, and dress shoes. Collared shirts must be tucked in and hemlines must be conservative.
- A jacket is required for gentlemen in the Main Dining Room and Cocktail Lounge. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, jackets are not required in the Cocktail Lounge.
- Denim, T-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, and athletic wear are not permitted.
- Athletic-style shoes, sneakers, flip-flops, rain/winter boots, and hiking footwear are not permitted.
- Headwear is not permitted, except for religious purposes.
Athletic Floors (Basement, 3 to 7, and 21)
- Suitable athletic attire and footwear are required on all athletic floors
- Members and guests in abbreviated attire, such as swimsuits, must wear a shirt, cover-up, or bathrobe when outside of the Aquatics Center.
The NYAC dress code is subject to change for specific activities and events. Please contact the NYAC Manager’s office should you wish to review the NYAC Dress Code.
Travers Island

Club House
At All Times
- Cargo shorts, swimsuits, gym shorts, and shower sandals are not permitted at any time.
- Headwear is not permitted, except for religious purposes.
After 5:30pm
- Smart casual dress is required. Smart casual dress includes slacks, neat jeans, dress shorts, dresses, skirt ensembles, collared shirts, blouses, and dress shoes. Collared shirts must be tucked in, and hemlines must be conservative.
- Athletic-style shoes, sneakers, and flip-flops are not permitted.
- T-shirts, sweatpants, and athletic wear are not permitted.
Patio
- Shorts and a shirt or cover-up are required. A boxer-type bathing suit is permitted.
- Footwear is required.
- See-thru or mesh tops are not permitted.

Electronic Device Policy
City House
General
- All electronic devices on Club premises must be silenced or turned to vibrate.
- Devices should be stored away when not in use.
- Video and audio recording is prohibited, without prior written approval.
Phone Calls

Use of electronic devices for the purpose of phone calls is permitted in the following areas:
- Overnight guest rooms
- Enclosed phone booths
- Lobby Communications Center
- Lobby Members’ Lounge
- At all times, members and guests must be mindful of their surroundings and be courteous towards others nearby.
- Calls must be short and made and received only when necessary.
E-mail & Texting
- Prohibited in the Hall of Fame and while seated in a dining area of all a la carte food and beverage facilities (Cocktail Lounge, Tap Room, Main Dining Room, Solarium)
- In areas where texting and e-mailing are permitted, such activity should be brief and considerate of the Club’s decorum. Extended texting or e-mailing is strictly prohibited.
Reading
- Prohibited at the Tap Room bar, in the Cocktail Lounge, and in the Main Dining Room during dinner service hours.
Laptops & Other Devices with Keyboards
- Permitted only in overnight guest rooms, the Lobby Communications Center and the Library.
Video-Conferencing
- Video-conferencing is prohibited, except in the Lobby Communications Center and overnight guest rooms.
Headphones & Earbuds
- Permitted only in the Lobby Communications Center and in overnight guest rooms or while making a call in a space where calls are permitted. They may also be used for listening only in the Library and in athletic facilities.
Photography
- Prohibited at the pool and in locker rooms.
Note: Electronic device policy in private event/banquet rooms is at the discretion of the Club and/or host.
Travers Island
General

Phone Calls

Use of electronic devices for the purpose of phone calls are permitted in the following areas;
- Parking lots
- Athletic Field & Hill area (when not in use for an athletic activity or event)
- Behind the pool house - adjacent to the outdoor basketball courts
- At all times please be mindful of your surroundings and be courteous towards others nearby.
- Calls must be short and only when necessary.
E-mail, Texting and Reading
- Prohibited in Shore 31 & Founders Grille
- Texting and reading are permitted at the Founders’ Bar.
Laptops & Other Devices with Keyboards
- Prohibited in all indoor spaces & outdoor food and beverage facilities.
- Permitted on the TI Lawn, except on weekends.
- Laptops are prohibited at the pool.
Video-Conferencing
- Video-conferencing is prohibited, except in the privacy of your own car.
Headphones & Earbuds
- Prohibited in all indoor spaces with the exception of athletic facilities, where they may be used for listening only.
Photography
- Prohibited at the swimming pool and in locker rooms.
Drones
- The use of drones, and other radio-controlled equipment, is prohibited without prior written approval from the Club’s General Manager.
